Remarketing: What Does It Mean?
Remarketing is a marketing practice used to target ads to people who visited your website or visited your website last month. Remarketing ads are usually placed within the ads that appear on other websites and can even be displayed on mobile phones and other devices.
Remarketing ads can be placed on Google search ads, display ads on other websites, search ads on Google, mobile search ads on Google, social media ads, display ads on Twitter, display ads on Facebook, display ads on LinkedIn, display ads on Instagram, display ads on Tumblr, and more.
The first remarketing program ran in May 2009 and it used the Google Display Network (GDN). But, the GDN has been phased out and that’s the reason why remarketing ads have become increasingly popular and effective. Those of you who live in India and would like to join remarketing must be aware of the best remarketing services in India which will provide Customer-oriented services.
There are several reasons why remarketing can be effective and why it’s one of the most effective marketing strategies:
Remarketing ads target people who are interested in your products and services and you don’t have to pay a high cost per impression (CPM) to reach these users.
Unlike Search Engine Optimization (SEO), remarketing works the moment a user is on your site. That’s why remarketing ads can be more effective and deliver conversions in a shorter time compared to SEO.
Remarketing is another way to monetize your traffic as most of your visitors are leaving your site after only viewing a few pages.
Remarketing uses past user data to deliver more relevant and contextual ads to the user.
How to Create Ad Campaigns with Remarketing?
Once you decide to run remarketing ads, you can start setting them up with the help of Google’s remarketing tool, which is basically an Adwords product. You can manage remarketing campaigns from your Adwords dashboard.
Google will let you know when you should start remarketing your traffic. For instance, once you run a search campaign for your business and display some relevant ads to a user. After a few hours, if the user sees these ads again, it means you should create a remarketing ad and run that remarketing ad again.
But creating a remarketing ad isn’t that easy. You need to create landing pages that are similar to your other site pages. You can use Adwords templates for this purpose. If you’re interested in Adwords landing pages, you can get more information about this in our previous post about Landing pages for Adwords.
Why Should You Be Using Remarketing?
There are two main benefits of remarketing:
It works well when your website hasn’t been updated for a long time and there’s a lot of interest in its products. If you haven’t updated your website for some time and there’s a lot of traffic on it, then it’s likely that they might be interested in what you offer. Remarketing allows you to see the traffic that visits your old website, and then make those visitors interested in your website, instead of just giving them away.
You can remarket using your old website and remarket to new audiences. If you’ve been running a remarketing campaign to display ads on old website that is no longer used for anything but generating leads, remarketing it to a new audience can be very valuable.
Remarketing is also a great way to get in touch with a new audience that has shown interest in what you have to offer.
How to Remarket using Google Adwords?
Creating a remarketing campaign is quite easy, but it is not that straightforward, and you’ll have to make sure that the ad isn’t too invasive or targeted at too specific of an audience. You need to be very careful with what you choose as you need to find the right audience for your remarketing.
You can start off by running remarketing ads using Google Adwords. Google Adwords provides you with a feature known as remarketing options that allows you to easily choose the right audience for your campaign. There are 3 types of remarketing audiences, namely:
Website owner audiences: This allows you to remarket based on the audience of a particular website.
Advertiser audiences: This audience is specific to Google Adwords and helps you choose audiences that are similar to your existing visitors in terms of age and geographical location.
In terms of settings, you can choose to show the ads to targeted audiences, or you can use broad matches to show the ads to people who might be interested in your product. You can also opt for an option known as campaign management, which allows you to manage your remarketing campaigns.
If you’re using broad match for remarketing, you can use the following criteria to target the campaign. The ad can show to people who’ve clicked on ads that are for the same topic or who’ve clicked on the ad of an advertiser who is running a campaign on the same topic.
When you set your settings in Google Adwords, there is a time restriction option that allows you to target the ads only on a certain day. This feature can help you in finding the right people to reach with your message. You can also use a time-restricted audience. The option allows you to create a campaign with the following three settings:
Specific times
Start/end times
Start/end dates
You can also use an option known as scheduled remarketing, which allows you to create ad campaigns that are set to run at a specified time. This option can help you in targeting users who will visit your site on specific days.
